Community Education Councils (CEC) are education policy advisory bodies responsible for, among other things, reviewing and evaluating their district's educational programs, approving zoning lines, and holding public hearings on certain matters​

​Each Community Education Council consists of 12 voting members who provide hands - on leadership and support and support for their district's public schools:

• 10 parents of students in public elementary, intermediate and/or junior high schools in the district
• 2 Borough President Appointees
• 1 High School Senior

​Responsibilities of CEC Members include:

• Approving zoning lines
• Reviewing the district's educational programs and assessing their effect on student achievement
• Serving as liaisons to School Leadership Teams
• Providing a district report card and ensuring its public distribution
